Our Story

Bitten by the Bug (Pun Very Much Intended)

How a garden lover, a good friend's dare, and a backyard in Toms River, NJ became something sweeter than any of us expected.

In the Beginning — A Gardener Who Fell in Love With Bees

My name is Ari, and I've always had dirt under my fingernails. Planting, growing, nurturing — it's just part of who I am. So when the subject of bees came up in conversation with a good friend one day, I couldn't stop talking about them. The way they pollinate. The way they hold entire ecosystems together. The way the world, quite literally, depends on them.

I was fascinated. My friend listened patiently — and then, with a grin, said the words that changed everything:

"You love bees so much — why don't you just try keeping them?"

It was half a challenge, half a dare. And I never back down from either.

The Early Days — I Got Bitten by the Bug (Pun Intended)

I dove in headfirst. No experience, no roadmap — just curiosity, a pair of gloves, and a whole lot of learning. Those first seasons were humbling. Bees, I quickly learned, don't care how enthusiastic you are. They have their own rhythm, their own rules, their own wisdom built over millions of years of evolution.

But something clicked. Standing at the hive, watching 50,000 little creatures work in perfect harmony, I felt the same thing I feel in my garden — that deep, quiet satisfaction of being part of something natural and alive. The hobby had me. Hook, line, and stinger.

Over the years, my backyard in Toms River, NJ became home to thriving hives producing some of the most flavorful, pure honey I'd ever tasted. Wildflower. Blueberry. Bamboo. Raspberry. Each one a portrait of the New Jersey landscape my bees explored.

Where Did "Donna Bee" Come From?

A little street, a little wordplay, a lot of honey. I live on Donna Dee Court here in Toms River. When it came time to name the honey, the answer was right outside my front door. One small swap — Dee to Bee — and Donna Bee Honey was born. Local in every sense of the word.

More Than a Hobby — A Mission

As a gardener, I knew intellectually that bees were important. As a beekeeper, I feel it every single day. Without bees, my garden doesn't bloom. Without bees, the blueberries and raspberries that flavor this very honey wouldn't exist. They are the quiet engine behind everything that grows.

Donna Bee Honey is my small way of giving something back — to the bees, to the land, and to the community I call home. Every jar is raw, unprocessed, and harvested with care right here in my backyard. No shortcuts. No additives. Just honey the way nature intended it.

What started as a friend's dare turned into the sweetest chapter of my life. I hope every jar brings a little of that Toms River backyard magic to your table.
